Urs Leimgruber

Urs Leimgruber is a key member of the European scene of contemporary improvised music. By developing new and extended techniques on the saxophone he has significantly contributed to the evolution of his instrument.

He is specialized in solo concerts and performs also regularly with musicians such Barre Phillips, Jacques Demierre, Thomas Lehn, Dorothea Schürch, Okkyung Lee, Roger Turner, Fritz Hauser, Marilyn Crispell, Joëlle Léandre, Fred Frith, Steve Lacy, Keith Rowe, Evan Parker, Günter Müller a.o. in Europe, Canada, USA, Cuba, Japan.

In the seventies he was confounder of the electric jazz-freemusic group OM. His music is to listen on several labels such HatArt, FOR 4 EARS, Unit, Disques Victo, PSI, ECM, etc. In 2003 he got the Art-Price of the City Lucerne.

Within Euterpe Project he conducted a masterclass on improvisation in traditional and jazz music on September 18-20th 2015 with students of Music High School Stankovic. The masterclass was also opened to musicians who are not students and it was not only saxophone players. Total of 20 musicians attended two day masterclass in school premises and in the end all the musicians participated in presentation which was opened to the audience.
